When You Are the One Holding Everything Together 

There is a particular kind of person I serve. A solo leader. Someone who carries responsibility with quiet strength, who keeps life and work moving even when the weight is heavy, who is relied upon by many yet has very few places for their own soft landing in case they need to fall.  I know this person intimately because I have been her for the last fifteen years.

Running a solo show looks impressive from the outside. People see competence, resilience, and an ability to juggle what others would drop. What they do not see is the cost. The constant calculation of what might fall. The fear of the glass ball that could break. The pressure of knowing there is no backup, no safety net, no one to catch you if you misjudge the next step. They do not see the late nights, the quiet doubts, the moments when you wonder whether you are winging it or whether you are simply audacious enough to keep going.

My own turning point arrived in a single sentence. I was still in the office at nine in the evening, leading a newly formed department, working against a deadline, believing that holding everything together was the only option. My father called and said, ‘I am still here’. In that moment the truth was unmistakable. I was choosing my career over the person I love, and whose final journey had already begun. I walked away from my career and became his caregiver. It remains the best decision I have ever made. But I made it alone, without a thinking space, without a sounding board, without someone who understood the pressure of being responsible for everything at work and everything at home.

That experience shaped my mission. I became a strategic solution expert for solo leaders because I know what it is like to run on empty and still keep going. I know what it is like to be the person everyone depends on. I know the cost of clarity arriving too late. And I know how transformative it is when clarity arrives early enough to change the course of a life.
